'This group arranges visits and outings to see how things are made or how local organisations work. If you enjoy program’s like BBC2’s “Inside the Factory” or are interested to know what makes local organisations tick or how products in your kitchen are made this may be the Group for you.
We will be following a similar program to How it Works Visits (HIW1) group, using the visits they have already undertaken and also adding new locations for that group to visit.
So far since HIW1 started at the beginning of 2022 they have visited a watch factory; a coal mine; Gloucestershire's waste incinerator, heritage railway workshops, a local manufacturing company and a backstage visit to the Everyman Theatre, Cobalt Unit in Cheltenham followed by a visit to the BMW Mini plant at Oxford, the Bugatti museum and the Gloucester Brewery, National Star, Laithwaites Wine Warehouse and Cheltenham Racecourse.
This year they have been to the Beckford Silk Factory, Air Salvage International at Kemble, BBC studios in Cardiff and Artisan Cheesemaking near Gloucester.
Where possible we will aim to have a light meal as part of each visit so there is a chance to get to know other u3a members too.
Future visits might also include the Police HQ at Waterwells, Walls Ice Cream at Gloucester, Amazon Warehouse, Lucozade/Ribena factory at Coleford or Gloucestershire Airport. Or more artisan activities like cider making.
To participate in the HIWVG you must be a fully paid-up member of Cheltenham U3A.
Members are emailed about forthcoming visits and places are allocated on a strictly first come first served basis.
